linking chinese and australian teaching, innovating international exchange ----- recording the online training activities of clil teaching method by experts of queensland education bureau, australia
on the morning of october 9, 10 and 16, 2023, our school invited ms gae nastasi and ms maria salcedo, senior esl training instructors from queensland education bureau, australia, to give special training on clil teaching method to our school english teachers. the english teachers who participated in this training actively asked questions and interactive discussions, carried out deep learning, and gained a lot.
clil teaching is a kind of teaching method that combines language and subject content, which is highly recognized in the english teaching field. this teaching method mainly uses english to teach students other relevant knowledge in addition to english, and learners can develop their language application ability while getting in touch with new knowledge.
on october 9th, ms gae nastasi gave a special training on how to use clil in schools. gae proposed that in the past classroom teaching, teachers paid more attention to the input of culture while paying less attention to the output of culture. although some teachers pay attention to the output, they mainly pay attention to the segmented output and ignore the integrated output. therefore, in the application of this teaching model, teachers should not only emphasize a certain item in the language or content, but should treat these two aspects as a whole to promote their common development. more comprehensive tasks of subject and task type should be added to make classroom activities more challenging, attract students' learning interest and promote the realization of teaching objectives.
on october 10th, ms gae nastasi gave a panel talk on how to integrate clil pedagogy into the classroom. when using clil teaching mode in class, teachers should try their best to restore the original appearance of learning language, so as to obtain correct context cognition and provide students with the real and natural context of language practice. teachers can make full use of a variety of modal means such as language, sound and vision to create a multi-perspective, multi-level language learning environment to help students master knowledge points.
on october 16th, ms maria salcedo gave a classroom demonstration of clil teaching method. the topic of the lesson is ‘trees around us’, introducing different parts of a tree, including leaves, roots, branches, trunk. we act as students and use these words to practice two sentence patterns. this is a... and these are... let students know which objects in life come from trees. in teaching, videos, songs, pictures and tables are used to let students understand the course content and the use of the target language, which improves the language cognition level and cognitive skills.
this training has broadened the international education horizon of english teachers in our school and improved the cognition level of education and teaching concepts. the english teachers who participated in the training all recognized the advantages of clil teaching method in cultivating students' bilingual ability, improving subject level and enhancing team cooperation, and also put forward higher requirements for themselves. it is believed that they will strive to master interdisciplinary knowledge and skills, better integrate language with subject content, and actively participate in future education and teaching.
