Call for Papers

Submission and Deadline

The Call for Papers is now open and will close at 6pm on 10 January 2020. Submissions should be made via EasyChair (click here).

General Information

In general, each panel session is 90 minutes long, contains three papers of 20 minutes each, leaving 30 minutes for discussion. Streams/current topics, which are heavily subscribed, may have four papers of 15 minutes in each session. Stream and current topic convenors will provide more specific information on the structure of their sessions, which may differ from this model, nearer to the time.

In line with the SLSA’s ethos, papers may be interdisciplinary in nature, and submissions from outside of law are welcome. Similarly, papers concerning socio-legal issues beyond the UK are also welcome.

If your proposal concerns something other than a paper (for example, a pre-formed session, a joint panel proposal, a ‘meet the author’ session, a film screening etc.), you should contact the relevant stream or theme convenor to discuss this.

Call for Posters

Submission and Deadline

The deadline for poster abstracts is also 6pm on 10 January 2020. Abstracts should be no more than 300 words and should be sent to slsa2020@port.ac.uk.

The poster display will take place in Portland Building. Researchers should bring their posters to registration between 10:00 and 13:30 on Wednesday 1 April 2020. They will then be assigned a board on which to display their poster. As in previous years, there is a specific Poster Competition for postgraduate researchers who are presenting, the prize of which will be presented at the conference dinner on the evening of Thursday 2 April 2020.

Poster Guidance

Posters should be designed to be A1 size (594 x 841mm) and can be landscape or portrait. Participants will be provided with a posterboard. Posters should have a title and the name of the researcher(s), affiliation(s) and email address(es) should be clearly presented.

Researchers should ensure that:

  • important information should be readable from about one metre away;
  • the title is short and draws interest;
  • the text is clear and to the point;
  • the use of bullets, numbering and headlines present the information clearly;
  • graphics, colour and fonts are used effectively; and
  • the layout is consistent and clean.
